Avoid These 10 Bedtime Habits! They Are Dangerous.

Do you often end up tossing and turning in bed, trying to sleep, but sleep continues to elude you? If yes, you might be suffering from insomnia. Insomnia is a disorder where you find it very difficult to sleep, and even after sleeping, you do not feel fresh the next morning. This leads to stress, daytime sleepiness, irritation, lack of concentration, and high blood pressure. With prolonged insomnia, you start feeling unwell both mentally and physically.

According to various studies, it has been proved that some of our bad habits lead to this disorder. Here are a few things we must stop doing before going to bed for a sound sleep.

1. Do Not Go To Bed Immediately After Having Your Dinner.

You must give a gap of two hours between your dinner and the time you go to sleep. This is because your body doesn’t let you sleep until the digestion process is complete.

2. Avoid Drinking Coffee At Least 4 to 5 Hours Before You Go To Sleep.

Caffeine stimulates your brain and keeps you awake. So, drink it only when you wish to stay awake.

3. If You’re Feeling Cold, Do Not Sleep Barefoot.

Cold feet do not let you sleep, even for a moment. Always wear a pair of socks that will keep your feet warm and then go to sleep. You can also use heating pads.

4. Do Not Sleep At Irregular Timings.

Sleeping at any time of the day can disturb your sleep at night. Follow a routine and sleep at the same time every day so that your body gets used to it.

5. Do Not Exercise Just Before Going To Sleep.

Exercising stimulates the body and keeps you awake for a longer period. Thus, if you want to workout, do it in the morning or at least three hours before you sleep.

6. Do Not Read Books Before Going To Sleep.

Many people have the habit of reading a book till they fall asleep. However, it is not a good habit, especially if you are suffering from insomnia. Try to finish the reading part an hour before you go to sleep.

7. Do Not Sleep On An Uncomfortable Mattress.

A good mattress facilitates sound sleep. Buy a mattress you are comfortable with, even if it is expensive. It will help you in the long run.

8. Do Not Drink Water Or Any Other Liquid An Hour Before You Sleep.

Doing this will disturb your sleep as you might have to wake up twice or thrice to pee.

9. Do Not Sleep On Your Stomach.

Try to find the position that you are most comfortable in and then sleep in that position. Sleeping on the left side will aid sound sleep.

10. Try To Stay Away From Electric Gadgets.

Staring at mobile phones, tablets or laptop stimulates your brain, and prevents you from sleeping peacefully. Keep your bed gadget-free.
